Arts

Dance, Visual Art and Music are vital parts of our school's curriculum. Each program provides opportunities to develop aesthetic literacy, participate in artistic performances and engage in cooperative learning experiences.

The goal of the Visual and Performing Arts Department is to foster empathy, spark imagination and grow an appreciation and interest in the arts that transcends their school career.

Visual Arts

Our Visual Arts Program utilizes a holistic approach to instruction that fosters creativity, observation, attention to detail, critical thinking, and decision making. It also acquaints students with the historical, cultural and communal impact of art in our society at large. Creating and making boosts kids’ self-confidence, develops communication skills, and positively impacts their academic performance by stimulating curiosity and improving focus.

Our art classes allow students to express their unique identities and can act as a means for them to process complex emotions and take age appropriate risks. Students enjoy the fun of learning hands-on with a variety of media and techniques that include watercolor, acrylic and oil paint, sculpting with clay, printmaking and digital technology.

Dance

The Dance Program at AGBU MDS is an exciting and dynamic opportunity for students to express themselves, communicate meaning through movement, and connect to their cultural heritage. Students are exposed to dance and movement starting in preschool and share their skills with the community at performances throughout the year.

In preschool and elementary the focus remains on Armenian folk dance. In middle and high school the dance program evolves to also include exposure to ballet, contemporary, jazz, and hip hop. The overarching goal of the dance program is to nurture our students' love of dance in a supportive and safe environment, where students are encouraged to take risks, push themselves past their comfort zone, and build confidence.

Music

The music program provides students with music skills that last a lifetime. When musical intelligence is developed, children become healthy, fully functioning adults who have not lost the capacity for wonder, the ability to feel deeply, and the urge to create something that expresses beauty.

The development of these music skills help produce people who can focus their attention for longer periods of time, strive for and achieve excellence, work in cooperative teams, and solve problems in a creative way.
