RECYCLING 2011-2012

We are pleased to announce that our AGBU MDS School-wide Recycling Program is continuing to make every effort this year to reduce our carbon footprint on the environment. We are registered, in the state of California, as an ECO SCHOOL through the National Wildlife Federation. The goal of our program is to, first and foremost, save and protect our environment. Recycling reduces or eliminates the need to build more landfills, saves energy, reduces greenhouse emissions, reduces air pollution and water pollution, and conserves forests. It’s a win-win situation that our devoted students are taking seriously. As good environmental stewards, our students are making recycling a daily habit and take pride in spreading the word throughout our community.

Within our classrooms and throughout our school, dedicated students and teachers are making every effort to recycle paper, plastic, aluminum, glass, batteries, etc. And this year especially, recycling is easier than ever! All recyclables can now go into ONE container! It’s easy, it’s convenient, and it makes a positive impact on our environment!

Parents, here is how you can be an integral part of our AGBU MDS School-wide Recycling Program so it will extend throughout our community.

(1) At home, designate a container where your family can place clean recyclables (nothing with food waste) such as:

paper (junk mail, newspapers, advertisements, flyers etc.)

cardboard (cereal boxes, packaging, etc,)

plastics (beverage bottles, bags, packaging, clean beverage or food containers, etc.)

metals (aluminum cans, clean foil, etc.)

batteries (all kinds)

glass (clean jars, beverage containers, etc.)

Please keep in mind that list above is not exhaustive. If you have any questions, you may contact Mrs. Shannan Marley at smarley@agbumds.org or visit her personally in the Elementary Science Lab which is next door to the Elementary Computer Lab.

(2) Bring your filled bag with mixed recyclables to school and drop it next to our “ALL IN ONE” recycling container as you enter/exit on the east side of campus on Hatillo Street. We will take care of the rest.

(3) Repeat steps 1-2 as this will become a life-long habit. Your efforts will reinforce your child to live responsibly and respect the environment. Our collective commitment will make our world cleaner and greener for generations to come.

(4) Enlist other family members (grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc) along with friends and neighbors to join us. Let your child be the ambassador. You will be amazed at how influential your child is when it comes to disseminating information in a way that truly motivates others.

Please continue bringing your empty ink and toner cartridges to the main office or the Elementary Science Lab, as we itemize and recycle them separately.
