MUSIC
1st TRIMESTER

Students identify and describe basic elements in music (e.g., high/low, fast/slow, loud/soft)
 
Students use the singing voice to echo short melodic patterns
Students sing age-appropriate songs from memory
Students play rhythmic instruments and move or verbalize to demonstrate awareness of beat, tempo, dynamics, and melodic direction
 
Students participate freely in singing and listening to American and Armenian songs and songs ofmany different cultures (traditional, patriotic, folk and contemporary)

Students learn thematic songs during the months of October(Armenian cultural month, Halloween), November(Thanksgiving) and December(Christmas)

2nd TRIMESTER

Students Identify and describe basic elements in music high/low, loud/soft, steady beat
Students use the singing voice to echo longer melodic patterns

Students sing age appropriate songs from memory
Students identify melodic patterns and repeated phrases
Students play rhythmic instruments

Students participate freely in singing and listening to American and Armenian traditional, patriotic, folk and contemporary songs and songs of many different cultures

Students learn thematic songs for the month of January and February(winter,Valenten's Vartanantz, Paregentan, Presidents' Day)

3rd TRIMESTER

Students identify and describe basic elements in music by identifying the strong and weak beats, patterns of long and short sounds, even and uneven patterns
Students sing age appropriate songs from memory

Students play basic rhythm patterns with rhythmic instruments
Students play and sing music games

Students identify the most common musical instruments and their sounds

Students continue to sing Armenian traditional, patriotic, folk and contemporary songs, American songs and songs of different cultures

Students identify the most common musical instruments and their sounds

Students learn thematic songs for the month of March and April (spring, AGBU Founder's Day, Easter) May and June (Mother's Day, Father's Day, Graduation)
