Music Class Description-3rd Grade

MUSIC
1st TRIMESTER
 
Students perform simple rhythmic patterns, using eighth notes, quareter notes and half notes
Students identiy melody and rhythm in selected pieces of music when presented aurally
Students identify visually and aurally the four familes of orchestra instruments
Students describe the way in which sound is produced on various instruments

Students sing with accuracy in a developmentally appropriate range, work on their posture, tone quality, diction, and breathing
Students sing age-appropriate songs from memory, including rounds and partner songs
 
Students participate freely singing and listening to Armenian traditional, patriotic, folk and contemporay music and music of other cultures

Students identify music of various cultures
 
Students make valid judgments about the quality of musical performance
Students are introduces to Armenian composers in October (Armenian cultural month_
 
Students learn thematic songs during the months of October(Armenian Cultural month,Halloween), November(Thanksgiving) and December (Christmas)

MUSIC
2nd TRIMESTER

Students sing age appropriate songs from memory in a developmentally appropriate range, work on their tone quality, posture, diction and breathing: continue to build confidence in solo singing

Students identify the rhythmic and melodic patterns in the music they perform
Students identify visually and aurally the four families of musical instruments
Students learn music terminology(tempo, dynamics)

Students are introduced to Bass clef notes

Students continue to learn about famous composers and listen to their music (biographies, Brain Pop, videos)
Students continue to sing Armenian, American (traditional, classical, patriotic, folk and contemporary) songs and songs of other cultures
Students learn thematic songs for the months of January and February (winter, Valentine's , Vartanantz, Paregentan, Presidents' Day)

MUSIC
3rd TRIMESTER

Students continue to sing age appropriate songs from memory in a developmentally appropriate range while working on their tone quality, posture, diction, and breathing; continue to build confidence in solo singing

Students continue to work on musical notation and on music terminology
Students identify families of musical instruments: brass, strings, woodwinds, percussion, keyboard
Students determine how tempo and dynamics effect the general mood of a piece
Students are introduced to ensembles: duet, trio, quartet

Students continue to sing Armenian, American (traditional, classical, patriotic, folk and contemporary) songs and songs of other cultures
Students are continually introduced to famous composers and their music (biographies, listening to their music, Brain Pop, videos, written assignments, puzzles)

Students are introduced to Armenian composers and their music

Students learn thematic songs for the months of March and April (spring, Easter, AGBU Founder's Day, Genocide), May and June (Mother's Day, Father's Day, summer)
