We are pleased to announce the results of the recently completed 2012 Southern California Private School Academic Decathlon. Twenty-five of our students competed in ten categories and won twenty-six medals, ten of them gold, and five of them in the Essay category. “We went up against Mater Dei and Notre Dame, schools that have over two thousand students, and still won more than our fair share of medals,” said our Decathlon Coach, and English Department Chair, Jason Strouse. “I think our ability to not only compete with these schools, but to compete with success, shows that AGBU MDS is one of the top private schools in Southern California.” In the essay competition, our Academic Decathlon students competed against nearly 200 students and won five of the nine gold medals. Gold medal essay winners were Seniors Arno Ekmekji, Nicole Yeghiazarian, and Gary Vartanian, and Juniors Patrick Galoostian and Alina Sargsyan. Seniors Alex Yeghiazarian and Gary Vartanian each won two gold medals; Alex in Literature and Science, Gary in Essay and Mathematics. Gold medals were also awarded to Anais Zarifian in Science and Melkon Makerian in Mathematics. We are exceedingly proud of our bright, hard-working students, and we know that this is just the start of our success at this annual event.
